The Government of Guam Association of Retired Persons, Inc., popularly known as "GGARP," was organized in 1969 through the initiative of a group of concerned citizens, led by the late Agueda I. Johnston. Johnston was an educator and an advocate for seniors and retirees. It was through her efforts that Guam became participatory in programs for elderly passed earlier in the U.S. Congress, with the extension of the Older Americans Act (OAA) to our Island. GGARP, through its subsidiary, "SPIMA-Servicio Para I Man Amko," implemented the opening and operation of all senior centers for 44 years, of significant in GGARP history. Now, GGARP's new vision is to continue to serve our "Man Amko" from now on, on an island-wide mission, with new, innovative programs, services, and public events, providing services and program for our Island's "Man Amko" in the senior centers and in all the villages, impacting the elderly in a lasting legacy.
