St. Dominic's Senior Care Home

St. Dominic’s Mission Statement:  “Based on the Christian principles of the sacredness of human life and dignity of the human person, we aim to provide institutional quality care in a pleasant, wholesome, healthful and home-like environment to the frail elderly of Guam, using the holistic approach, taking into consideration not only their physical but also their psychosocial and spiritual needs, preparing them for the final encounter with their Creator and loving Father, while making their waiting a happier and more meaningful one.  We will not discriminate, both of our residents and personnel on their color, race, country of origin, creed, social status or disabilities.”

Quality care, which includes nursing services on a 24-hour/7-day basis, with supervision and assistance in their daily living routines, many of which include bathing, toileting, feeding, ambulation, etc.  Therapeutic diets and snacks, and daily-supervised recreational activities are given to entertain residents.  On the religious aspect, spiritual services are given in the form of daily prayer, mass on Sundays, holy days of obligation and first Fridays, general anointing, and so on.  The agency encourages socialization and visitation so events are scheduled on residents’ behalf.  Events such as Christmas, Easter and Grandparents’ Day are celebrated through special mass, which includes food to provide bonding opportunities with family members.

Additional Information:

The agency’s building is about three stories high with 56 individual rooms and a large ward of 10 beds for residents. Each room has its own bathroom and shower, as well as its own closet. This agency is owned and run by the Religious Missionaries of St. Dominic, also known as the Dominican Sisters. In order to qualify for admission, elderly must be at least 55 years old, with no communicable or mental disease and not require the acute nor skilled level of nursing care. Elderly can be chronically ill but in stable condition. If resident becomes acutely ill, he or she will be sent to the hospital.  Requirements include: Complete physical examination and completion of forms by the applicant’s physician with a recent chest X-ray (no more than 3 months old).
